Alternative Project, Good Leisure Program

What is Alternative Project?

GoodWater Company works in partnership with ‘Alternative Project’, founded by a Japanese lady, to explore global cultures and issues through close interaction with local citizens while collaborating on short-term projects to benefit local people in a fun and casual environment.

The program will impart participants with ‘global perspectives’ and fresh new ideas to improve the local communities in their home countries. Participants will also gain a sense of satisfaction from having helped people across the world and making new friends in the process.

The Program

Alternative Project invites you to see things beyond tourist attractions and learn more about various aspects in life such as environmental and social issues through unique activities. The theme Environment and Poverty shows participants solutions that resolve environmental challenges and overcome poverty in the society at the same time.

Moreover, participants will get the experience to explore the Indonesian culture by visiting Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO world heritage site, and the villages around. Participants may also join art activities that will heighten a sense of appreciation for local values and beliefs to see how people appreciate and develop art as one important aspect in life.

Day 1**

malioboro-1

Upon arrival, meet & greet by our local representative and transfer to hotel. Free at own leisure to explore the Malioboro Street. The street is the centre of Yogyakarta’s largest tourist district surrounded with many hotels, restaurants, and shops nearby. Sidewalks on both sides of the street are crowded with small stalls selling a variety of goods. In the evening several open-air street side restaurants, called Lesehan, operate along the street. This is the street of the artists. Street musicians, painters, and other artists exhibit their creations on this road. Less obvious to the tourist, but more for the local population, side streets, lanes and structures that lead on to Malioboro are as important as the street itself. You will have yourself a whole good day!
